I just wanted to offer a brief explanation of the buildings' color to avert any misinterpretations. I was in Beijing last week and had a chance to stop by the construction site. The structure is, of course, concrete. Insulating that concrete is the rigid, pink polystyrene common in US construction. Slathered on that in places is some inexplicable mortar or concrete that's giving the photo an organic quality. A small portion of the north-eastern-most exterior wall has been finished and is indeed white with brightly-colored recesses.
