Via ArchNewsNow, I came across this article in the London Times about the new American embassy compound now under construction in Baghdad:
1. At 104 acres, the biggest embassy in the world
2. 15 foot thick perimeter wall
3. 21 separate buildings
4. Will have its own water and power plants
5. Bigger than any of Saddam Hussein's palaces
6. May offer the world's biggest swimming pool
7. Kuwaiti contractor using only foreign labor
8. Will accomodate staff of 8,000
9. Current cost: $582,000,000
The conceits that: a. The project is supposed to be secret, b. the Iraqi people will see it as anything other than a enraging symbol of perpetual occupation - priceless.
