We don't usually list tours on our calendar, but we're told by the folks at docomomo_chicago midwest that there are still a few spaces available for a Saturday, October 4th tour by scholar and new Landmarks Illinois President Rolf Achilles, Boule Mich Modern, which will explore the question: "How did the modern develop in Chicago? Did Midwest modernism have its origins in American Art Deco? Explore the development of modern ideas of design in the context of an expanding metropolis. Tour upper Michigan Avenue with local preservationist and art historian Rolf Achilles. Join us for an intriguing discussion of the origins of Boule Mich Modern and how architectural design developed for commercial entities in a neighborhood that transitioned in the 20th century from residential to one of the world’s most renowned retail districts."
The tour is $20.00 for non-members and, with a limit of 20 participants, reservations are a must. Reserve via email. More information on-line.
