On Leong Crushing Wright, Sullivan, Bunshaft
I don't know exactly who the supporters of the On Leong Merchant Association Building in Chicago's Chinatown are , but I do know they're the ones I want working precincts for me come the next election. The Partners in Preservation competition to select the winners who will divide up a honey pot of $1,000,000 in grants is nearing its end. Voting closes October 10th, and the identity of current leaders and also-rans may surprise you. Read all about it and see the pictures, including a handy-dandy chart (it was done in Excel, so it has to be important) here.

I agree, my vote went for the mismanaged and under-maintained Chinatown landmark... the one of very few buildings that architecturally represent the neighborhood.
Speaking of random preservation:
What is happening to the Dunham building on Ohio St behind the new 600 N LSD towers? Looks like they are ready to demo that structure. But for what?
As the curator of one of the sites in the Partners in Preservation program, and having now spent an unforseen amount of staff time and energy trying to get out the vote for our site for the last month (while not relishing competing against so many deserving sites), I pause to reflect on the sad demolition of a Chicago mid-century treasure, 1418 N.LaSalle, the former home of Eldon Danhausen, which is currently under demolition. The destruction of an outstanding example of a 1960s reinterpretation of an 1890s building is one major loss, but Danhausen's studio out back resided in a pre-fire Chicago cottage--a fact which perhaps few knew. Almost gone, without being evaluated.
It looks like it's official

Kind of a fun contest. Could be worse, they could demolish the bottom vote getter.
