click for larger view (just as fuzzy)Conductor Riccardo Muti kicked off his tenure as Music Director of the Chicago Symphony this evening with a free concert in Millennium Park. The crowd, estimated by police to be slightly under 2 billion people, filled the seating area and lawn of Frank Gehry's Pritzker Pavilion and spilled over to concourses north to Randolph, south to Monroe, and on to coterminous areas of Indiana and Wisconsin. The photograph you see here was taken from the roof of a Mazda dealership in Hobart.
